{Tilly and the Buttons} Stevie dress

Hello again!
I have such a massive backlog of finished stuff to share here that I probably could get away without sewing until the end of the year! We went gallivanting around New England a couple of weeks ago and I was on a mad mission to sew a crap tonne of stuff before we went. Funnily enough, the project I'm sharing today was not one of the ones I made for my holiday...
Only because the new Stevie pattern by Tilly and the Buttons came out just before we were due to go and I didn't get a chance to whip one up to take with me.
However, I saw to it just as soon as I got back home and felt like my brain could handle sewing again. Unfortunately this only happened last weekend - damn you, jetlag!

Isn't it cute? It's a super simple dress and top pattern but I love it so much. It's very loose fitting but it doesn't look frumpy. I think that's largely because it isn't quite as loose around the chest. I love the cuffed sleeves and the bow detail at the back is just gorgeous! It's a perfect pattern for beginners.

This version was always going to be a test garment. I made it in a super cheap polyester that has been in my stash for about 2 years. It's a bit clingy though so I'm crossing my fingers that I won't get lots of electric shocks if I wear this once the weather cools down. I think it'll look really cute with tights or leggings and some nice ankle boots.

Had it not been for the fabric, I would've been able to get this dress finished in just a couple of hours. It was quite slippery to handle and it frayed a lot as well. I ended up french seaming the sides because I was worried overlocking it wouldn't be enough to make it last.
I made my usual T+TB size 3 and I'm very happy with it. I might lengthen it a little for the next one  though. I can't wait to make a top or 2 out of it as well. I think it'll be a perfect substitute for a t-shirt. And, as it's so quick to make, I can see a few more Stevies in my future.

The bow closure at the back is probably my favourite detail of this pattern. And the best thing about it is that I can get it on and off without untying it, so I can make sure the bow looks nice before I put it on. ;)
I also like that the facing is stitched down a couple of inches in from the edge. It's hard to see on mine because the print it so busy but it keeps the facing down and gives a nice extra detail around the neckline.

All in all, this is a real winner and I can't wait to make it again.
And again.
And again.
And again. :)
